Why we love skiing!
Finding ski/snowboard related news to blog about in the Summer isn’t a particularly easy task! So sitting here today we got thinking about what it is that makes us, in the middle of summer, dream about being in th
e snow… here comes our ‘Why we love skiing’ post!
Skiing isn’t just a sport, it’s a way of life! From that first trip it somehow manages to get under your skin and just leaves you desperate to go back for more. Quite incredible when you think how miserable some of those early days can be, with the dreaded side stepping up the nursery slopes, a feeling of a total lack of control when you’re coming back now, and stood, freezing, in the middle of a blizzard counting down the hours until you can justifiably head to the nearest mountain restaurant for your first break of the day!
So what is it that really makes us love it so much??
- The feeling of achievement… From those very first moments of barely being able to stand up, to your first parallel turn, to your first black slope and your first jump, whichever level you’re at you always get an amazing feeling of achievement when you conquer something new.
- The thrill… Hurtling down a slope, in control (!), is an awesome feeling. When we skied in Tignes at May bank holiday weekend last year the empty slopes and resulting ability to power down them from start to finish meant we had so many ‘wow’ moments we lost count!

- Being in the mountains… As if the two previous points weren’t enough, you also get to experience them in often the most spectacular surroundings. There is nothing quite like that feeling you get when you’re at the top of a mountain, on a sunny day, with not a cloud in the sky, looking out over the mountain range in all its glory; ooh it gives us goose bumps just thinking about it!
- The après ski… Apres ski is just the best kind of going out! The nearest equivalent is probably going to the pub on a Friday after a hard week in the office! It’s that feeling of reward at the end of an exhilarating day and the feeling that you’ve totally earned it!
All in all a week in the snow is by far the best holiday experience you can ever have and that’s what makes us go back again and again and again… Roll on December!!
