New Zealand – wish we were there!
Not only are they experiencing fantastic snow conditions in New Zealand (how jealous are we!) but they’ve also got the inaugural 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games to look forward to next month.
100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games is making history this August as the first elite snow sports event to have able bodied and athletes with a disability compete together. It will provide the opportunity for all athletes to race alongside each other in the alpine skiing and cross-country skiing disciplines.
Winter Games NZ CEO, Arthur Klap has said “This is a new concept in high performance competition. We believe no distinction should be made between any athletes that perform at the highest possible level, against the best in the world. To this end, adaptive and able bodied athletes will be competing at the same time, on the same course.”
They’ve got a top quality field of international athletes lined up to compete in the Games, including a host of Olympians, world champions and national champions, and today they’ve made headlines again with the Mongolian National Ski Federation having submitted a team of three alpine skiers to the event!
See here for more info http://www.wintergamesnz.com/index.php . The inaugural 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games will take place at Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Snow Farm, Naseby and Dunedin from 21-30 August 2009.
